It is possible to add this journey on the Rovos Train at the beginning or end of your stay in Cape Town.
You will travel from Cape Town to Pretoria or vice versa. From Cape Town your journey will first take you through Worcester on the way to Matjiesfontein. En route you will pass through the amazing Hex River Pass with its four tunnels, the last being 13.7kms long. A stop in Matjiesfontein will let you take a leisurely stroll around this quaint little Victorian village.
Your jouney will continue the next day to the diamond town of Kimberley. One of South Africa's best kept secrets, the history of Kimberley is strongly linked with associations of diamonds. A tour of the town is included and also a visit to the 'Big Hole'. You will also visit the Mine Museum which houses the first recorded diamond discovery and shows how the industry was transformed and mechanised in the late 19th Century. Leaving Kimberley, on most occasions spectacular flocks of flamingoes can be seen.
The train will stop at the colonial-style private Rovos Rail station situated in Capital Park, Pretoria. Here you will be able to wander around the locomotive sheds and visit the small railway museum.
