CAPE TOWN
One of the best ways to familiarise yourself with the city is to take the cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain. The cable car's rotating floor and huge windows ensures all passengers get a 360 degree aerial view as they head up the mountain. However, if there are clouds on the table-top, it's best to leave your visit for another day. On the summit there are spectacular views of the coastline and you will be able to see clearly Camps Bay with its stunning beaches, and bustling promenade of shops and restaurants.
VICTORIA & ALFRED WATERFRONT
This is a busy harbour with fishing boats, private yachts and ocean going liners slipping in and out of the quays, but it is also a magnificent meeting place perfect for strolling, or stopping for drinks at one of the many outdoor cafes and bars, watching the boats as they come and go. There are many first class restaurants, a superb shopping centre with a huge variety of shops and areas where colourful jazz bands and African dancers and singers entertain the crowds. Within the Waterfront is the Two Oceans Aquarium, reputed to be one of the finest aquariums in the world with over 3000 exhibits.
KIRSTENBOSCH BOTANICAL GARDENS
Not to be missed, these magnificent gardens cover the 'back' sidfe of Table Mountain. There is a wonderful selection of trees and plants, many indigenous species, a wonderful collection the beautiful proteas, and superb mountain views.
GREEN MARKET SQUARE
This is in the heart of Cape Town's business district - it is the ultimate flea market. Here you will find a huge range of goods to buy including good quality craftwork and curios, but there is also entertainment in the form of buskers, mime artists and jugglers.
SIGNAL HILL
This prominent landmark is at the foot of 'Lions Head'. On an evening when you are in town, a short taxi ride to the top of Signal Hill is a must - the spectacle of the lights across the city below and the views of Table Bay are simply magnificent.
BO-KAAP DISTRICT
This is one of the most historically rich areas of Cape Town. The collection of brilliantly coloured houses at the foot of Signal Hill is the spiritual home of the Cape's Muslim community and a good place to try a traditional spicy Cape Malay meal at one of the local restaurants.
