Our tour starts in Athens with a one night stay at the family-run Hotel Philippos. The hotel is ideally situated close to the Acropolis and the charming narrow streets of Plaka with its many traditional cafes, tavernas and shops. While in Athens you will have the opportunity of visiting the cropilis and also the new, impressive Acropolis Museum. This museum has approximately 4,000 objects on exhibition which focus on the findings from the archaeological site of the Acropolis from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. A guided walk is also included taking you around the ancient city with splendid views of the Acropolis and the Ancient Agora. The walk finishes in Monastiraki, a 'flea market' area renowned as one of the principal shopping districts in Athens.
Evia is still relatively undiscovered and is the second largest island in Greece. It offers an amazing variety of historical monuments and stunning scenery. From Athens you will transfer to Agia Marina and take the 45 minute crossing to Evia.
Southern Evia is famous for its Drakospita (Dragon Houses). These unique, extraordinary Neolithic monuments have astounded architects and archaeologists since they were first discovered. A visit will be made to these houses and also a very interesting Agricultural Museum. In the remote village of Raptei you will have the chance of watching local women preparing 'pita' - a delicious pie of wild greens and cheese, cooked
over an open fire. After sampling the finished product a walk will be taken passing through small villages ending at a beautiful beach for lunch in a local taverna and of course an opportunity for swimming.
No visit to Greece is complete without a sunset boat cruise. A small, traditional fishing boat will take you around the bay of Karystos and on board the captain will offer you some of his own wine and a selection of mezes. The picturesque fishing village of Marmari overlooks the nine small Petah Islands and here you will visit the factory where the famous Karystos slate is processed, before lunch at a superb seaside taverna where your hostess will show you how she prepares what will be a truly
