GRAN CANARIA has an interior of high mountains with rugged outcrops, deep valleys and spectacular views. Canary palms grow up to 1000 metres above sea level and higher than this are thick forests of fire-resistant Canarian pines with their long needles. On the west coast you will find small fishing villages with superb coastal scenery, whilst the north is greener and ideal for the many banana plantations and huge areas of tomatoes and vegetables which are grown under cover.
The capital, LAS PALMAS, in the north east is well worth a visit with a large beach, shopping areas, busy port and the old city with its cathedral and narrow Spanish streets and squares.
The south coast from Puerto del Ingles to Puerto Rico is very commercialised.
However at the extreme west of the south coast is PUERTO DE MOGAN, in our view a unique and very special area of Gran Canaria.
The port of Puerto de Mogan has retained its Spanish charm and traditions with its original village, fishermen and local families.
The port itself is divided into different basins. One is entirely for the fishermen with their colourful boats where you can see the catch being brought in. Another is for boat repairs and there is also a marina, where many pleasant hours can be spent in one of the many restaurants or cafés on the quayside watching the boats coming and going, or browsing around the variety of boutiques and shops.
There is a ferry service, which normally goes along the south coast three or four times a day, a regular bus service and plenty of taxis. Car hire can be arranged at reception.
Excursions into the hills and the north of the island are available through our Representative.
There is a golf course 15 kms from the hotel.
Our Agent’s Representatives will do everything possible to ensure you enjoy your holiday. You will be met at the airport (taxi transfer approximately 1 hour), and visited at the hotel once a week.
