Bohinj & Piran

Slovenia - 11-Day 2-Centre Tour Bohinj & Piran

Slovenia has been independent and peaceful since 1991 and the Slovenes are understandably proud of their land.

Although a small country, there is much to see including forests and flower-strewn pastures, mountains, lakes, valleys, vineyards, linden trees and ‘toplar’ the traditional hay-drying racks so typical of the alpine region. Sturdy churches and elegant bell towers are a feature of the landscape throughout Slovenia, and the busy harbours of the Adriatic are backed by gently rolling hills where white Lipizzaner horses graze.

You will receive such a warm welcome and find so much to enjoy that this is a country to which you will want to return again and again.

Mount Triglav, the symbol of SLOVENIA, has a spiritual significance for Slovenes and presides over the abundant forests and lakes of the JULIAN ALPS. The beautiful area of BOHINJ LAKE is where they say the spirit of Slovenia is preserved. It could only be reached by footpath until the end of the 19th Century, thus ensuring Bohinj remains remarkably unspoilt, quiet and close to the Slovenian way of life. Tradition is important here. The scenery is superb, the walking a delight and wild flowers soon spring up once the snows have cleared and are normally profuse until the winter weather returns.

Towards the ADRIATIC SEA, vineyards and olive trees start to appear and this softer landscape brings you to the well-preserved town of PIRAN with its lovely harbour and lively square. Piran is enchanting with its narrow cobbled streets, terracotta roofs, hidden squares, numerous restaurants lining the water’s edge, many of which specialise in fish, and colourful fishing boats bobbing in the harbour. The church, baptistery and bell tower of St. George, as well as the remains of the 15th Century defensive walls, overlook the town and one feels as if little has changed through the years. The Slovenian coastline is only 48km and is sandwiched between ITALY and CROATIA, both of which are easily accessible.

A knowledgeable and experienced English-speaking guide will arrange airport transfers and accompany you on all tours. Transport is in a comfortable air-conditioned coach.
