The Algarve is renowned for its mild winters, low humidity and warm sunny summers normally totalling over 3,000 hours of sunshine each year. In spring almond, orange and lemon groves burst into blossom. In autumn, the sea is still warm and the olive trees are ready for harvest.
The Algarve is on the main route of birds migrating south from Europe and even from the Arctic Circle, so ornithologists can see about 200 different species come and go during the year. Golfers have a choice of eight first-class courses, the nearest being about 25 minutes from the hotel.
Along this rich fishing coast, towns and villages all offer a large selection of fresh fish and shellfish cooked in a variety of traditional ways. The local copper ‘cataplana’ produces a delicious dish of steamed shellfish and the fresh sardines are exceptionally good. A wide range of good Portuguese wines compliment any menu, and of course, port.
iIn the hills overlooking Faro is the small village of Estoi and among the beautiful trees and countryside you will find MONTE DO CASAL. Here privacy, comfort and personal service prevail in an atmosphere of total relaxation. There are good walks around the hotel.
There are many interesting towns, villages and lovely sandy coves to visit along the Algarve coastline and Faro is only about twent minutes away. For an interesting day out, drive west along the coast to the quayside in Portimao, where you will find several restaurants lining the harbour wall. Sardines taken straight from the sea are grilled before your eyes, the smell of barbecued fish tempting you to sample this little piece of culture in true Portuguese style.
