Icelanders are proud of their country and keen to preserve its beauty and cleanliness. The welcome you receive is warm and the cuisine of an exceptionally high standard. Carefully planned meals include delicious varieties of fresh fish and the most tender mountain lamb.
Our tour takes you from REYKJAVIK in the south, around the west of Iceland to AKUREYRI in the north and the area of LAKE MYVATN, famous for its birds and a veritable crossroads for ducks. Whilst in the north we will board a converted trawler for whale-watching in SKJALFANDI BAY and also explore the TROLLASKAGI PENINSULA before taking the inland road back to Reykjavik There will be plenty of stops for photographs and to study the flora and birdlife. The latter on and alongside the fjords is prolific and amongst others we saw puffins, Arctic terns, fulmars, shags, Iceland gulls, black guillemots and eider duck.
In one day in Iceland the weather can be as variable as the landscape, from clear blue skies or still and calm, to rain and wind. The sky is vast here and the cloud formations can be spectacular. We found it was mild with a delightful softness to the unpolluted air and for most of the short summer season, it is daylight for 24 hours of the day.
A knowledgeable and experienced English-speaking guide will accompany you throughout.
Transport will be in a comfortable coach or minibus.
