Delft, Leiden, The Hague & Amsterdam

Our tour visits some of the Netherland’s most important towns: The Hague, Delft, Leiden and one of Europe’s great cities, AMSTERDAM, renowned for its canals lined with beautiful merchants’ houses, flower market, wonderful museums and relaxed atmosphere.

Amongst a wealth of sights, including the intensely moving Ann Frank’s house, there are three museums not to be missed. The Rijksmuseum with one of the world’s finest art collections and important works by Rembrandt and Vermeer, the Van Gogh Museum displaying 100 of the artist’s paintings and finally, Rembrandt’s house, the artist’s home for 20 years.

Famed for its distinctive blue and white ceramics and tiles, DELFT is the birthplace of Vermeer and was featured in the recent film ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ inspired by the painting of the same name. Set on several beautiful tree-lined canals, this beautiful town has churches dating from the 13th and 14th Centuries, the Oude Delft Canal and the Hippolytusbuurt Canal, where florists display their wares.

Best explored on foot, LEIDEN is a charming university town with a number of exceptional museums and is the birthplace of Rembrandt. Criss-crossed by ancient canals, highlights include; the Ethnology Museum; Stedlijk Museum housed in the old Cloth Merchant’s Hall; Rapenburg Canal lined with fine houses; Rijksmuseum Van Oudheden Museum of Antiquities and the 17th Century fish market.

Home to the Dutch Government and Parliament, THE HAGUE is a pleasant, spacious seaside town with a multitude of squares and parks spread over a vast area. As well as elegant avenues lined with stately mansions and attractive parks and gardens, the town is famous for its superb museums. Most famous of these is the wonderful Mauritshuis, the Royal Picture Gallery, that houses an extraordinary collection including works by Rubens, Rembrandt and Vermeer amongst many others.

Other sights in The Hague include the Groenmarkt main square, Picture Gallery of William V, Bredius Museum, Noodeinde Palace and St Jacob’s Church.
