Just a stone’s throw from the Peloponnese, Poros is one of the greenest and most unspoilt islands in the Saronic Gulf, with stunning views in all directions.
Architecturally, Poros town is very attractive with narrow streets, distinctive white washed houses and terracotta-tiled roofs. The bustling harbour is always lively and full of atmosphere with cafés, tavernas, restaurants and shops.
Poros has all the ingredients for a traditional Greek holiday: a comfortable hotel and beach in a picturesque position; interesting excursions; boat trips, and at sunset a relaxing sundowner with a choice of dinner at the hotel, or in one of many nearby tavernas and restaurants.
.
POROS was originally joined to the Peloponnesian mainland until the volcanic eruption of Methana in 273BC and is now two islands connected by a road. POROS TOWN is on the small island of SFERIA and KALAVRIA is the much larger pine-forested island.
The PELOPONNESE, with its many archaeological sites can easily be reached by small taxi boats, which constantly cross the narrow strait from Poros town to GALATAS, and take only five minutes.
We will have our own partl-time represenatative to look after you, arrange transfers, excursions and boat trips.
You have the choice of either buffet breakfast only, or half board with buffet breakfast and set menu lunch or dinner. There are tavernas and restaurants within easy walking distance (10 minutes) of the hotel and Poros Town (40 minutes) has many excellent cafés, bars and restaurants.
Optional trips avaiable:
1. A trip to the nearby island of HYDRA.
2. Involving transport by boat and minibus/coach, a round trip of the island of Poros (Kalavria) including a visit to the monastery of ZOODOCHOU PIGIS and the 520BC ruins of the TEMPLE OF POSEIDON. Lunch at a local restaurant (not included).
3. A full day’s drive over to the Peloponnese visiting the ancient site and amphitheatre of EPIDAVROS, wine tasting at a local winery and then on to the beautiful town of NAFPLION.
4. A full day boat trip around Poros stopping at a beach for swimming and a barbecue lunch.
You may also wish to visit the ancient and historical site of MYCENAE, as well as the lesser-known ancient city of TROIZEN. A day trip to ATHENS is also possible, as too are boat trips to the nearby islands of AEGINA and SPETSES. A sundowner cruise followed by dinner in GALATAS can be arranged.
On arrival at Athens airport you will be met by our Courier and travel in an air-conditioned coach or taxi crossing the Corinth Canal and down the east coast of the Peloponnese to Galatas, from where you will take the short ferry crossing to Poros. Your transfer by coach/boat is approximately 3 hours. On your return journey you will depart from Poros taking one of the many boats direct to Piraeus from where you will travel by air-conditioned coach to Athens airport.
