This delightful short tour, based at the famous Randolph Hotel in the heart of Oxford, explores the legacy of one of Britain’s greatest designers, William Morris, whose influence still pervades British decoration.
We also explore the legacy of the Pre-Raphaelite group with whom Morris had strong connections in their work on some of Oxford's historic colleges with expert guide and lecturer, Dr Anne Anderson.
WILLIAM MORRIS - A GREAT VICTORIAN
The Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood (PRB) were a group of English artists active between 1848 and 1853, whose work was characterized by intense colour, tight handling and predominantly medieval subject-matter. Together they produced many works of art, stained glass windows and fine decorations, many of which you will see in the colleges with your guide Dr Anne Anderson.
Whilist at Oxford, William Morris worked with a number of the Pre Raphaelite Brotherhood, namely Edward Burne- Jones, John Everett Millias and William Holman Hunt and you can see much of their work in the University Colleges in Oxford. During this four day tour you will also visit beautiful Kelmscott Manor, William Morris’s Cotswold home, the Ashmolean Museum and Bucsot Park.
