On arrival in DAR ES SALAAM you will be transferred to The Oyster Bay**** for one night before commencing your tour.
You will then stay for 2 nights in MIKUMI NATIONAL PARK. Surrounded by two mountain ranges and with panoramic views over the open undulating plains, Mikumi Wildlife Camp*** has stone cottages with terraces overlooking nearby waterholes. Lions, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, hippos, wildebeest, eland and yellow baboon are commonly seen here. All cottages are simply, but comfortably furnished with twin beds and en-suite shower room. This camp has a restaurant, bar, lounge and a swimming pool.
From here you will drive through the impressive RUAHA GORGE to the Southern Highlands and stay for 3 nights at the Mufindi Highlands Fishing Lodge*** located on a friendly family-owned private estate. Stunning forests, tea estates, rivers and tranquil lakes provide the ideal environment for total relaxation. Wooden chalets with private bath/shower rooms all have spectacular views. A scenic drive through the tea estates and on to the spectacular 2000 ft RIFT VALLEY escarpment edge is included and many other activities are also available.
En-route to Ruaha a stop at ISIMILA STONE AGE SITE will be made. This is where some of the richest finds of Stone Age tools were unearthed in the 1950’s, estimated to be between 60 and 100,000 years old.
RUAHA NATIONAL PARK derives its name from the GREAT RUAHA RIVER, which is home to hippo and crocodile. Birdlife is prolific and game viewing is superb with the chance to see waterbuck, reedbuck, antelope and buffalo on the water’s edge, which in turn attracts lion, leopard, hyena, wild dog and jackal. The remoteness of Ruaha is its greatest charm and its vegetation ranges from vast grasslands and swamps to evergreen forests and river valleys. Covering over 12,000 sq. km it is also Tanzania’s biggest elephant sanctuary.
Nestled into the banks of the MWAGUSI SAND RIVER is Mwagusi Safari Camp***. This is a small, tented camp and you will have 3 nights here. All tents are designed within raised thatched bandas and are comfortably furnished with en suite shower rooms and large covered verandahs. The camp has a restaurant, bar and lounge.
From Ruaha an internal flight will take you to the SELOUS GAME RESERVE where you will stay at Beho Beho**** for 3 nights in luxurious stone and palm thatched cottages. At Beho Beho you will immediately feel totally at home with the friendly family of staff looking after you, making sure your stay is an unforgettable experience. From here you will have the opportunity to explore the largest protected wildlife area in Africa. With rolling savanah woodland, grassland plains, rocky outcrops, rivers and lakes, the Selous boasts large numbers of game and abundant birdlife.
Following your safari you will take a flight via Dar Es Salaam to Amani Beach**** for a stay of 4 nights. This hotel in over 90 acres of indigenous woodlands, is set on a beautiful sandy bay, lapped by the Indian Ocean, where the surrounding bush meets the beach. Accommodation is in very spacious air-conditioned cottages with verandahs. There are two restaurants, a bar and a swimming pool. Tennis, snorkelling, wind surfing, bird watching and guided walks are available.
