The Lombardy region of northern Italy is the cradle of Romanesque architecture and there are beautiful examples in the region’s major cities and particularly its capital, MILAN.

Milan’s centre is dominated by one of the world’s largest cathedrals, the magnificent Gothic Duomo di Milano. Commenced in the late 14th Century, the cathedral is second only in size to St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and its stunning roofline dissolves into openwork pinnacles punctuated by 135 spires.

The superb Brera Art Gallery houses one of the finest collections of art in the world and is not to be missed. More fabulous works of art are housed in the Castello Sforzesco.

Milan, of course, has a world reputation for its designer fashion and there are superb shopping opportunities in the city, particularly in one of its most beautiful covered arcades, the 19th Century Galleria Vittorio Emmanuel II.

PLACIDO DOMINGO AT LA SCALA

To see a performance of one of the world’s greatest tenors at arguably the world’s finest venue, La Scala, is indeed a unique experience.

Franco Alfano is probably best known for completing Puccini’s ‘Turandot’ in 1926. His opera, ‘Cyrano de Bergerac’, was first performed in 1936 and is based upon the original play in 1897 by Edmond Rostand, a romantic French poet and dramatist. Domingo took the title role in 2006 at Covent Garden, commanding the stage with his usual magnetic presence.

We have arranged top price stalls or rear box seats for the performance, but there may be an opportunity to upgrade to stalls or front box seats, subject to a supplement and availability. Please enquire when booking.

LEONARDO’S ‘LAST SUPPER’

This famous 15th Century mural was created by Leonardo Da Vinci for his Patron, Duke Ludovico Sforza. The 'Last Supper’  portrays the reaction of each apostle to Jesus’ revelation that one of them would betray him and this can clearly be seen on the expression on their faces.

Painted in a radical, but flawed technique, on the walls of the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Da Vinci’s masterpiece began to fade not long after the work was completed. For many years the painting has been painstakingly restored to its original glory and remains one of the world’s most iconic art treasures. Our guided city tour iincludes entrance to view this amazing work of art.
