GUIDEB BY DR ALAN HARRINGTON
AND ACCOMPANIED BY CHRISTINA HESSENBERG
With a beautiful coastline, idyllic countryside, majestic mountains and an excellent sunny climate, NORTH CYPRUS is a botanic haven.
In spring the landscape blossoms into a flush of colour and this is a wonderful time to discover the many species of flowers endemic to this lovely island. A huge diversity of wild flowers can be found growing in the mountains, along the coast, in the valleys and the castles and around the reservoirs. March is a perfect time of year to find the flowers at their best - there are twenty different orchids alone and searching for flowers is a wonderful way to get to know North Cyprus.
Dr Alan Harrington, formerly of the Botany Department of the Natural History Museum, will guide all our tours. He has led flower tours for the Museum to Portugal, Spain, Crete and North Cyprus, and knows exactly where to find the ‘endemics’ and most treasured species.
Dr Harrington will be accompanied by CHRISTINA HESSENBERG who has guided our Crusader Castle Tours for many years and who many of you will know.
During your tour you will travel to many diverse areas on the island that are rich in flora, including the little-known KARPAS PENINSULA, the ruins of SALAMIS and KANTARA CASTLE, as well as other flower-rich areas in the north and west of the island. You will explore pine forests, coastal cliffs, limestone pavements, sandy dunes and beaches and visit many interesting historial and ancient sites, castles, churches and villages.
During your tour you will be based at the Onar Hotel and Bogaz hotels.
