The Normandy region of France combines a 360 mile dramatic coastline, with an interior of lush farmland, bustling market towns and historic cities such as Caen, Bayeux and Rouen. Our tour of Lower Normandy covers two distinct areas - the fascinating Cherbourg Peninsula and the area around Bayeux in Calvados.
Many beautiful Châteaux, set in magnificent landscaped grounds are to be found in Normandy, along with smaller, atmospheric gardens, some contemporary, others a riot of blossoms and colour. The French Impressionists found inspiration in the landscapes of Normandy, capturing the wonderful light and colours in their magnificent work.

Normandy boasts beautiful green countryside, gently undulating hills, appealing sandy beaches and characterful French villages. Renowned for its apple orchards and lush grazing land, it is also home to some remarkable gardens.
Our exclusive four-day tour selects some of the finest gardens of the Cotentin and Calvados regions, visited with French gardens expert, Clare Whateley, as your host.
Your tour will be based at the small, but stylish and contemporary HOTEL DES ISLES, located right on the seafront in the pleasant resort of BARNEVILLE-CARTERET on the west coast of Cotentin. A sheltered terrace faces the sea with sweeping views across the English Channel.
Chateau de Nacqueville was created in the 1830's by an English landscape gardener and notable for its waterfalls and unusual plantings of water-loving shrubs and perennials, along with semi-tropical plants.
Chateau de Vauville is a garden where structure is all-important. It features a sophisticated palette of silver and darkest green focused around a collection of evergreens and southern hemiphere plants.
La Bizerie is the creation of a garden writer with a passion for plants from the Far East, California and the southern hemisphere, which lend this garden a tropical feel.
Les Jardins de Castillon offers an exuberance of colour and texture with herbaceous borders and clematis-strewn arbours complementing the thoughtful planting and clever terracing.
La Malposte is an intimate, romantic, restored mill house with unusual perrenials and strikingly placed grasses.
Chateau de Brecy is a magnificent formal garden. Its four terraces - each with its own garden - rise from the parterre behind the house. Every detail of the design and planting, all the perspectives and the slopes have been carefully planned to make the most of this remarkable space.
