BEZIERS is a quintessentially southern French Town, renowned for its bullfights, rugby and the wines of the surrounding region, and is well worth exploring. The town is dominated by the huge 14th Century CATHEDRALE ST-NAZAIRE, which boats fine sculptures, stained glass and frescoes. Nearby we will sample some of the local wines and take a boat trip on the CANAL DU MIDI, famed for its nine locks.
Our base for 6 nights is at the charming Chateau de Lignan on a dinner (set 3 course), bed and breakfast basis. Set in extensive grounds just 10 minutes from BEZIERS, the hotel ofers a true taste of provincial France. Facilities here include a bar, excellent restaurant, terrace and comfortable bedrooms with private bath/shower, TV and telephone.
The capital of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, MONTPELLIER, is an attractive and lively southern city. The main sights here include the Promenade de Peyrou, a grand 18th Century square domintaed by the CHATEAU D'EAU; old town lined with 17th Century mansions including the Hotel des Tresoriers de la Bourse, 12th Century Towers de la Babote and Des Pins, and Musee Fabre that houses an excellent collection of French paintings.
