A stunning drive will take you via the scenic ‘Route des Grande Alps’ to LAC LÉMAN on the shores of LAKE GENEVA. Highlights include the pretty, medieval walled fishing port of YVOIRE with its massive 14th Century castle and EVIAN with its tree-lined lakeside promenade.
The international city of GENEVA is home to the European headquarters of the United Nations, International Red Cross and the World Health Organisation, as well as more than 200 other international organisations. Sights include the iconic ‘jet d’eau’, the world’s tallest fountain surging skyward from Lake Geneva, 16th Century St Peter’s Cathedral and the UN building.
There are also excellent museums of modern and contemporary art and the International Car Museum and Voltaire Museum.
At the foot of Europe’s highest peak, Mont Blanc, lies the attractive resort town of Chamonix. Renowned for spectacular ski runs and for all types of outdoor activity, especially in their more extreme variants, such as ice climbing, extreme skiing and canyoning. A full day here will give you the opportunity to take the Aiguille du Midi cable car (the highest in Europe) across spectacular alpine scenery, almost to the top of Mont Blanc.
