Normandy with its warm temperate climate, is a varied region stretching from the limestone plateau of the Pays de Caux and the Cotentin peninsula in lower Normandy.
The base structure of upper cretaceous chalk, similar to the north and south downs in England, influences many of the types of plants that grow in this region. Apple orchards, cider houses, little fishing ports and beautiful manor houses are all timeless features of Normandy, past and present.

the FULL itinerary
Following the success of our inaugural 'Secret Gardens' tour to Normandy last year, we are delighted to include an additional tour to this lovely area in our 2010 brochure. Both our tours offer the chance to visit less well-known gardens in France, including those not normally open to the public where you will have the chance to meet the owners who will explain their vision and background to truly illuminate the experience.
A team of garden writers, in conjunction with the influential Garden Museum in London, voted 'Le Jardin Plume' (on our original itinerary and included in our Rouen/Dieppe Tour for 2010) the best new garden of 2008. This garden truly reflects the area's Impressionist background.
Our new tour, 'Cherbourg Peninsula' is centred around the spectacular landscapes varying between the rocky cliffs and coves of the west coast, the river valleys in the centre and marshlands in the south. Warmed by the Gulf Stream an abundance of exotic plants thrive reminiscent of those of the Isles of Scilly.
Our tours have been put together in conjunction with Garden tour specialist 'French Gardens Today'. Owner, Clare Whately, has pioneered garden tours to Normandy and has built up friendships with many of the garden owners. Whilst not personally escorting all the tours, Clare sets up all the visits and arranges the talks and reception by the garden owners.
ROUEN/DIEPPE, FRANCE - 6 DAY TOUR
Our Rouen/Dieppe 'Secret Gardens of Normany Tour' takes you through winding, lush river valleys and along the cliff tops of this spectacular area in northern France. Warmed by the gulf stream, the climate here has encouraged the development of a wealth of beautiful gardens.
Included on our 2010 Rouen/Dieppe tour are two gardens never normally open to the public and we are fortunate to be able to include these in our tour. Contemporary, natural and formal settings, intimate rural gardens and grand Château gardens provide a wealth of contrasts and include the award-winning Le Jardin Plume.
