Situated on the western shore of the Red Sea coast 140 kilometres south of Hurghada you arrive at the sleepy little town of El Quseir and The Movenpick Resort El Quseir is located just a short drive away.
Before the 10th century El Quseir was one of the important ports on the Red Sea and used by pilgrims from many countries of Northern Africa as a major exit point on their way to Mecca. In more modern times its harbour still remained a thriving centre of trade export. The Ottomans fortified the town in the 16th century and later the British beat the French to control it. With the opening of the Suez Canal the town's decline sped up with brief prosperity in phosphate exports.
Dominated by its long history, the Ottoman Fortress and old coral block buildings with characteristic wooden balconies, El Quseir has a real charm unlike other Rea Sea towns. We
have included in the holiday cost an excursion which will take you into El Quseir town with a delicious fish lunch at a local restaurant.
MOVENPIK resort EL QUSEIR**** This beautiful beach front hotel is set on an idyllic coral reef fringed bay overlooking the deep blue waters of the Red Sea. Seemingly part of the natural surroundings, the rooms are set in clusters of stone-clad bungalows with high domed ceilings in atmospheric Nubian design. There are plenty of opportunities for recreation including snorkelling, scuba diving, tennis, squash, archery, biking, jeep safaris and horse / camel rides into the desert. There is a good swap library and a small shop.
Walking out from the hotel in both directions following the coast is easy and very enjoyable.
